Due to the creative nature of my work, I get to do a bunch of really fun things. But some of my favorite projects involve friends, their passions, and using my art and graphic design skills to help them shine (pun intended). So, when my new friend asked me to be part of launching her new private counseling practice, I was overjoyed. My part in this process was to create a logo and begin to build a brand that reflects the beliefs, intentions, and heart behind the practice.
Speaking of heart, meet Morgan Walker - my sister in Christ, friend, brand new Mobilian, and the beautiful, compassionate soul at the helm of Morgan Walker Counseling whose desire is to provide professional counseling that "gives light to all of life".
From start to finish, this was a group effort. Morgan wanted to utilize the talents and gifts of beloved family members so that her branding would reflect the personal nature of her career and the sort of care she would provide for future clients. Her sister, Megg, was tasked with web design and implementation (a huge feat). Her daughter, Margaret, contributed some hand drawn lighthouses. You'll also notice a beautiful watercolor painting of a lighthouse done by a close relative. But, let me walk you through some of the design work and decisions we made for creating branding for Morgan Walker Counseling.
The full name graphic is created from Morgan's own handwriting. This personal touch reflects the sort of service and attention offered by her practice.
This repeating lighthouse pattern features one of Morgan's favorite colors - blue - as well as the artwork of her daughter, Margaret. She hand drew three different lighthouses, and I was able to edit and render her beautiful creations in a digital format so that they could be used for multiple purposes. Like isolating a single lighthouse and using it for the primary business logo (see below).
The primary logo is simple, personal, and full of meaning. The lighthouse is an icon very special to Morgan's heart. It is largely recognized as a symbol of hope, whether you're a sailor or not. The light emanating from a lighthouse signifies that a safe haven is near and shelter from a storm is close at hand. And that's what Morgan's counseling practice desires to bring into the darkest and most tumultuous of life's situations - LIGHT.
The hero image on her website clearly reflects her mission statement and features a blue-scale rendering of her family's cherished watercolor lighthouse painting
(full color version below for reference).
It was a pleasure to partner with Morgan, her daughter, and her sister on this
project and to see it all come together. And just like the lighthouse is a symbol of something so much greater than the structure itself, these images are also a representation of so much more than a business. Behind this logo is a person with a heart for those who are hurting or who feel battered and broken down by the cares of this life. If you are in a tough season right now and desire wise counsel, look no further than Morgan Walker Counseling. She is kind; she is professional; and she is more than qualified to meet the counseling needs of you, your adolescent, teen, or family as a whole.
