This photo isn't well-edited or styled. In fact, it's one I quickly snapped with my phone. One showing a post-it note written by my husband which he lovingly stuck to my computer screen and a hand-made "I love you" from my youngest son which he taped to my scanner. These are messages from my people intended to encourage me and show me love placed where I'd be sure to see them, the desk in my at-home studio.
Working from home is such a gift. My schedule is flexible, and I'm available to my people (and pets). But that's also where it gets tricky; my flexibility and accessibility can also mean less productivity. My juggling act may look different from the mom's who goes to work in an office outside the home, but I'm still running a circus around here. (Actually, let's be real; my husband J.T. is the clear ringleader of this greatest show, but I am an active member and fellow ball-juggler.) That said, I can get frustrated when my work starts to fall victim to interruptions, busy sports schedules, slow sales and commissions, seasons of "artist's block", lack of belief in myself, etc. But when I sit down and see reminders of my family's love for and belief in me, I'm reminded that those things are true whether or not I've accomplished my to-do list for the day, met all my business goals, created more original art, or sold enough product. I continue to be blessed by their unconditional love and support of me and my small, creative business.
As I continue to create more pieces of pretty art on fancy paper and canvases, these words of affirmation on paper scraps written by the people I love will forever be my most beautiful, priceless treasures.
To J.T., Charlie, and James Tyler, I love y'all really big. You're my favorites, and I'm happy to be on your team.
